Remember to put your child first in child custody cases

As you go through a child custody battle, it is easy to focus on how to get to your ex. You might want to make things difficult for your ex. Trying to do that can make your focus move away from your child, and it is crucial that your focus remains on what is best for your child.

In many child custody cases, it helps to have a third-party present to help you learn about what options you have. We can help you to be sure you think about the points that are truly important as you are moving through the child custody mediation process.

We recently discussed the holidays and the special considerations that come into the picture with child custody cases. That blog post showed some examples of how your actions can actually make the child custody issues a bit easier to deal with.

One thing that you should remember as you go through a child custody case is that most of the time, it is best for a child to have a meaningful relationship with both parents. This is true even with you and your ex can't get along. Your ex is still your child's parent and as long as he or she is a good parent, your child deserves to have a relationship with him or her.

We know that this is all a lot to think about right now. We can help you to learn about what options you have for the child custody matters. You can use that information to decide what you are going to do and what stand you want to take.
