Make sure you think about your options in a divorce

Your divorce requires your undivided attention so that you make the best decisions. Unfortunately, the need to make these decisions comes at a time when you are likely emotionally raw and feel like you are living in a nightmare. This is especially true if you are going through the divorce unexpectedly.

We understand that the divorce might have blindsided you. Even if this is the case and you didn't have time to prepare for the divorce, we can help you figure out your options for protecting your interests, both now and in the future. Time is of the essence in these matters.

One thing that you need to do is find out what financial records you can get your hands on. This is crucial if you think that your ex is going to try to hide assets so that he or she doesn't have to give them up during the property division process.

If you aren't able to get your hands on financial records, we might be able to gather that information during the discovery process where both sides exchange information. We might also be able to recommend a forensic accountant to determine if there is anything amiss with the financial records that are provided to us during the discovery phase.

As we work on your case, you will need to determine what issues on which you want to hold firm and which ones are open for negotiation. This gives us the ability to determine a starting point for the negotiations that occur during mediation. It also lets us know where we need to focus our energy during the process.
